When widows starts up, the display on screen is poor like that of a negative of a photograph? Do I need more RAM?

I doubt your problem has anything to do with RAM. It might be a hardware problem with the video circuit in your laptop or a problem with the "inverter" that powers the screen's backlight. I suggest you take it to a good repair shop.
