Factory Image after formate !!

I have Toshiba laptop and i had a problem with the system(vista) and didn't allow me to use any of the tools in the F8 just black screen and nothing so i formate the C drive and i install a new system but it gave me alot of probelms so what i can do to back it up to the factory image since i still have the files in drive D ?
And i didn't have any CDs , can i back it up after i formate the drive C
