HP dv6000 Black Screen After Loading Desktop

Hello,
I have a dv6000 laptop. Generally as I log on it goes through booting up normally, then just after it passes the Windows welcome screen where it would show the desktop the screen goes black. I have no mouse pointer on the screen, the sounds all work fine, it seems the computer is working normally just no picture as soon as the desktop is supposed to load. Sometimes the desktop will show for a quick flash then the screen will go black. I boot in safe mode and it works absolutely fine. I've tried to update drivers/BIOS but it wont work due to it being in safe mode and I have no way to seeing what I'm doing otherwise. I have no idea what to do at this point and any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I'm running Vista Home Premium 32x.
