Black screen with large cursor

Need Help...Have I lost my photos?

Pavillion DV5 Notebook
Black screen able to boot, but keeps returning to the black screen with cursor.

Tried to remove battery, press start etc as recommended by others...still no result.

Please HELP!

Please check whether the problem isn't coming from the graphic card.
