How to open a USB when it's still detected?

Hello, how can i open my external hard drive when it's still recognized and detected by the computer? the problem is when i plug the usb wire to the computer, it makes the sound and it's showing that it's still working properly, but i can't open it at all. I have no idea what it's wrong with it,please help me, thanks.
