May be for the security reasons SSID broadcasting is disabled. So you have to manually insert the SSID name in order to establish a wireless network connection. The default SSID will be name of the router like linksys-g, NETGEAR, MSNHOME. But for security reasons they may have changed the default SSId. Just contact the person who manages the network.
