My husband already has a facebook account and when I tried to open one by myself with the same email address and password it says the account already exists and wouldn't let me open mine.

You and your husband, in the face of the world are individual, independent and free. On Internet there is no such thing as the fusion of individuals.
You must therefore have a different e-mail and a different password because Facebook remembers them all and only one person can use them.
