When an OS (Windows or Linux) is installed on a computer it is customized to the hardware on the motherboard. You can't expect to move a hard drive between computers and have it boot when it finds new hardware. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Also Linux formatted hard drives are not readable by Windows unless you download special drivers.

Sorry I am not a Linux person. I will re-direct your question to our Linux Forum.

Hi gilbo,
Connect your harddrive and try to repair the OS.
Good Luck.
