Acer travelmate 2700

Hello all, Im hoping that someone can help me. Ive got a acer travelmate 2700 which was starting up ok until the 40gb hard drive failed. Ive replaced the hard drive with a 60gb one but now it will only power on, the hard drive light flashes but nothing comes on the screen to allow me to do format and install windows xp. Any ideas to what may be wrong with it would be very much appreciated. Thanx
