Hi, there!
I got a second-hand laptop with a Samsung MP0402H 40GB hard drive.
When I removed the HD from the unit and plugged it into an external drive I got a message saying the hard drive was corrupted.
I formatted the drive and it seems now that it's working fine. I can put files in it and open them properly.
My question is: can this HD be trusted to store information? I am thinking about reloading windows xp back on here but I'm not sure if I should just start over with a new HD?
What do you think, guys?

Hello,
You should make a more complete test of the disk with the vendor's disk test utilities, which are meant to test extensively the disk:
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/utilities/Support_HUTIL.html
Your hard disk model is mentioned there.

I wouldn't trust it for very long.
I had kind of the same issue with an older laptop. As you did, I formatted the hard drive and installed some programs. Then, before going to bed I shut it down and turned it back on for one more test and it didn't do anything but give me a gray screen. The HD was just dead
