Start by removing the battery and drain the power from it pressing power,click here and have more instructions.

NEVER REMOVE the internal battery! That will drastically reduce your motherboards life-span! However, in your current situation I'd advise you to re-install windows vista. Clearly there is a problem with your formatting, whether its corrupt or not, just re-install vista :)

It may sound silly ,but have you recently change: switch for a PS2 to USB ..keyboard/mouse recently..
