Hello,

Today i bought spyware doctor to eliminate viruses that i had on my computer. So i ran the scan and removed the viruses and then it asked me to reboot the laptop, so i did. However now when i click on anyones user i get a blank desktop with just a mouse cursor. I have tried task manager and it seems that the viruses that were affecting my internet have now gone, but i am now left with this problem. :( please help. Thanks nathan

Hello,

Try this 1.

1) When you switch ON your computer, start tapping the "F8" key to get

"Windows Advanced Options"( if boot menu appears, press "Esc" key and keep

tapping the F8 key)

2) Select "Safe Mode with Networking"

3) Click on Start --> Run --> type regedt32 and press Enter.

[Note : If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 then

Click on Start --> In search box, type regedt32 and press Enter. ]

Registry Editor will be opened. Navigate to the following location

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

At the right side, find the strings shell & userinit and check the following

shell value data should be
Explorer.exe

userinit value data should be
C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,

If shell and userinit are having different data values then change it as mentioned

above.

Just double click shell and userinit and enter the data values as

shell --> "Value data" should be
Explorer.exe

userinit --> "Value data" should be
C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,

Note: there is "," at the end of userinit.exe

Then download "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" from the below link.

https://ccm.net/downloads/security-and-maintenance/4621-malwarebytes-anti-malware/

Update it and perform "Full Scan"

Note : Default selected option is "Quick Scan"

Good Luck.

Thanks For Replying Jack I Appriciate It.
I Did What You Asked And They Were Already Correct.
Ill Take You Right To The beginning.
My mum stupidly downloaded the DHL virus email that has been going round thus leaving us with a blank screen but with the my documents folder coming up. I used kapersky and it brought the desktop back but still with the virus which kept changing web browser, redirecting them. I downloaded and used many anti virus software and still it was gettin rid of it. So i then resorted to buyin Spyware Doctor Which came up with Over 100 Virus on the computer and 30 infections. I Removed these and then the Blank Desktop(my post above) came up, this time without showing any documents. However since then i managed to get into spyware doctor and found this virus in quarintine, A Site i was reading ssaid i should restore it too get my desktop back etc. So Stupidly i did and although i do have my desktop back, i now have the redirecting virus back but when i try to access my computer, documents, pretty much anything this message comes up "Explorer.EXE"
"This file does not have a program associated with it for perofrming this action. Create an association in the Set Associations Control Panel"
Except I Cant Get Into My Control Panel :/
Its Confusing I Know But All Suggestions Are Welcome!!
Thanks Nathan.

Hello,
Try this 1.
First download the "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" from the above link and perform full scan.
If the problem still exists then
Click on the below link and download the HiJackThis file
http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/HijackThis.exe
Install it --> Click on "Do a system scan and save a log file. Copy the log and post it here.
Also paste the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware log file.
Good Luck.

Greetings to you Nathan and my good friend Jack4all

Please permit me to provide you my experience in log analysis.

Jack's suggestion to use Hyjackthis was most appropriate in your case Nathan.

Nathan, please request another Hyjackthis scan without the log. Once the scan is finished you will be able to check some items. Please check the following which are nasty and are at the source of the problem.

Once they are all checked, click on fix checked and close Hyjackthis. Now, Malwarebyte will be able to perform. Run a full, I repeat a full scan with Malwarebyte. If your system is restarted, do not be alarmed. Reopen Malwarebyte and continue the scan.

Here are the items to be checked:

Before you go to Malwarebyte, you have several entries: O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\wpclsp.dll which may need to be deleted with Hyjackthis, before you do

Please scan with lspfix from cexx:

To end this thread, to ovoid future problems of the sort, if I were you, I would flush Limewire and never use it again. It is a virus and hackers, nest.

Nathan,
Please ignore Griever for the moment for your issue is not related to file association but with a virus.

Hi Ambucias, Thanks For The Reply. Much Appreciated!
I Trust What You Say And Checked All The Boxed Like You Said And Fixed Them, I Am Now Back To A Black Desktop, Exactly Like My First Post. I Can Use Task Manager To Access The Internet Etc. I Ran The lspfix and it said i had 0 problems so those 010 Unknown Files I have left them as they was. I Am Now About To Run Malwarebytes And I Will Let You Know Whats Happened Once Done So.

Great,

Once you are done, since you have no winsock error, you may need to run another hyjackthis scan and delete all but one. (Have you noted they are all the same? That is not normal.

I may be going offline in about 20 minutes to return only in 10 hours or so but jack4all can take over from here. Jack and I are on the same friendship team.
