"Operating system not found" error often indicates that the hard drive has failed.
If you have and external CD drive and the Ubuntu CD, you can set the BIOS to boot from the CD. This will test if the rest of the system is OK. If it boots OK from the CD, I would purchase a new hard drive and install a new copy of Ubuntu.
