Your problem has not been described correctly and thus you should provide more details over the issue. Meantime, please consider getting through the following.
There might be three different possibilities for the mic to be acting up, the connection of the mic, the micriophone settings or the volume control.
You should make sure that the microphone is correctly connected to its port. Most often the port in the front and back panel is of pink colour. Please make sure that it has been connected to it. In the situation that both are black, please check nearby, there should be a microphone symbol indicating the right port.
For checking the microphone settings, please open the Sound and Audio Devices from the Control Panel. In the Audio tab, in the Default Device in the Sound Recording section set it to the correct configuration if it isn't.
If the above instructions doesn't help, it could simply be coming from the volume control. Please open the Volume Control and adjust its volume. If ever you do not see it, click on Options and select Properties. Check Recording and see whether in this section Microphone is checked. If it isn't, please have it checked.
