My suggestion is to reinstall Windows 7.
Windows XP does not have the hardware drivers to interface with your Hard disk controller. Very advanced Windows users can find the drivers and modify their copy of Windows. After you have XP installed you will then find that you also lack hardware drives for audio (sound), internet and all the other custom hardware that a laptop contains. It's best if you juswt learn to live with Windows 7.
Google "slipstream" if you must continue on this folly.
