i've tried uninstalling it didn't work for me but not every system is the same. I fixed mine by luck, just messing around. My internet browser(mozzilza firefox added a plug in called itunes application detector I disabled it and now itunes works fine

Hello,
Well don't you sound upset! I hope you are not getting heartburns.
To complete the installation you must first uninstall what may have been improperly installed and got corrupted.
When you uninstall such an application, it must totally be uninstall. Of course there is the add/remove programme utility, but yet with Apple stuff, you still need
to go to "Application Data" and manually remove the files.
Again, you must go to "Program files" and manually remove the files
Finally, you must remove the registry entries
I suggest you download, install and run this totally free yet very efficient registry cleaner :

Reboot your machine and install your application

That figures, Apple applications are extremely hard to uninstall. They leave traces in the registry and other files sometimes must be renamed before removal.
Please run this free uninstaller, reboot and reinstall ITunes.

The above is the easiest way. If you do not succeed, we will have to do some manual surgery.
