With your device plugged in, go to start > right click computer > manage
on the left side click device manager and find your device in there (it might have a triangle next to it) - this could either be under network adapters or universal serial bus controllers.
if you find it in here i recommend right clicking on it and uninstalling, restarting the laptop and trying again.
if this fails, download usbdeview from https://download.cnet.com/s/usbdeview/
install this and delete all the usb driver which are in there relevant to your device.
also, check that the device is compatible with windows 7 on the manufacturers website.
