After you reinstalled XP, the driver for your sound card did not install.
You must reinstall your sound card driver and update it (if an update has been issues) and your sound will return.

pc the cd and go to device manager and install it thats it,....enjoy......

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=INS_CEL_1000
Expand "Audio" and download "Analog Devices(ADI)", then install it, the audio will work perfectly after that.
