Black Screen.

Hello,
I own a Quosmio Toshiba laptop computer. I had not booted it for months, and when I was going to shut down, there were over 44 updates. After the updates were installed, I went to reboot it and a black screen and cursor were the only thing that came up. I did a search on You tube and watch several clips on repairing a black screen, but nothing has worked so far. Any suggestions?
