The major problem of CD/DVD writer is lens problem, either your writer lens is cover up of dust & dirt or your lens has been dead.
Buy CDROM Cleaner.. this CD has small brush on it and its clean the lens of CDROM or CD/DVD writer.
If this not work.. then you should unplug your CDROM cable & re-plug it, maybe this method will work for you.
