Toshiba U400-124 won't start up Closed

Hello, 

I have a Toshiba U400-124 and on pressing the power on button, The lights come on, the HDD spins up and I can hear the head move for a couple of seconds (and the HDD light comes on) then nothing.  I can still hear the HDD spinning but the head is not moving about.  The screen is totally black.

I have tried the 'disconnect power and hold the on switch for 60 sec' but no joy.

I have also tested the magnetic lid switch and that is OK too.

Any suggestions most welcome
Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 8.0

Pleased to report I solved this problem.  The trouble was that one of the RAM modules was not making contact - I had removed it previously and when I put it back in, there was a small piece of sticky label on some of the contacts and this prevented the module from making proper contact.

This had the effect of KILLING the machine totally.

Still I can strip a Toshiba U400 in under 10 mins now!
