PC won't boot

Hi everybody
PLEASE HELP!!!
My ddrm slot started smoking a week ago and i had to strip the mobo to cut away the affected area of slot. the slot is now unuseable.i went through proper pro by earthing myself etc. took detailed diagram of connections etc. i sourced compatible ram same mhz type and put it in the next avail slot. the computer boots but only to the pentium logo. my mobo beeps when no ram is installed. i tried reseting the bios, no joy and it won't boot into ubuntu off usb or cd rom. the drawer of the cd drive opens but it won't boot from it. The pc is an advent t9001 with 3ghz cpu. its prob bout 8yrs old but was great before this incident. Is it time to buy new pc. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
