Windows cannot read

Hello,

I was using my external hard drive when message says it needs to be formatted. when i click format, message tells windows cannot read drive.

what steps do i need to do to use my external hard drive. i am using 1 Tb WD external drive.

Hello,

Try that:

In the Control Panel..
Double-click on Administrative Tools,
Click on Computer Management
Click on Disk Management.
Right click on your drive and click on format.

If the solution above does not work, try to use a formatting tool like HP Usb Disk Storage which is downloadable from the link below:

Windows erroneously gives the "reformat" message when it can't read the hard drive. It can be the result of the failure of the physical drive, the drive electronics or the USB interface.
