Hello,

When i switch my laptop on, enter my password and login, nothing starts up itself. If i press Ctrl + Shift + ESC to go to task manager, i can manually run explorer. It doesnt start up itself!

I found a software on a flash disk i found in school. It looked interesting because i do 3D modelling so I ran it but nothing happened. So i deleted it. Also, i used CCleaner to disable some startup programs but nothing like explorer or sidebar.

Now i have to manually start everything up. Also, my custom theme always changed when i boot the computer. It can be a windows coded virus (such as the shutdown virus made in notepad) because AVG didn't pick it up.

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello,

Try this 1

Click on Start --> In search box, type regedt32 and press Enter.

Registry Editor will be opened.

First backup your registry by going to "File --> Export".

Navigate to the following location

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

At the right side, find the string named Shell and check the following

Shell value data should be Explorer.exe

If Shell is having different data values then change it.

Just double click shell and enter the data values as

Shell --> "Value data" should be Explorer.exe

Good Luck

Hi, thank you for the reply.

I've checked and the shell for winlogon already is explorer.exe. I'm sure doing a recovery would fix this, but that will actually be more inconvenient than this. Thanks.
