Some keys on keyboard not working

keys zxcvbnm and escape key not working. more specifically these keys are not detected by notpad or any other typing application like MS Word etc.
other keys work well.
also "left alt+F4" not working as it should.(as "right alt + F4" closes running application)
what could be the problem, pls help...
