Hello,

I tried logging into my computer and it came up with a screen that said something about damaged files. I tried to run my virus programs but they just stalled. All my programs, all documents have been deleted. I can live with losing the documents and pictures. I would like to try to get internet explorer back on the laptop or am I faced with just buying a new laptop at this time.

The damaged files message may indicate that your hard drive is failing. The drive can be replaced and windows re-installed. But, it might cost more to have someone do that than it costs to buy a new laptop. I suggest you find a local repair shop and have them do a diagnostic of the computer and give you a firm price to fix it. Make it clear to them that you will hold them to the quoted price.

Good Luck

Do not go for new harddrive

There is recovery rogue software going around which hides PC files and shows pops up about hard disk errors

I want you to boot the PC into safemode with networking, download
this

https://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.zip

Extract and run it..it should find a rootkit ,cure it

Then download and run this

https://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/eXplorer.exe

After this download malwarebytes and do a full scan

https://ccm.net/downloads/security-and-maintenance/4621-malwarebytes-anti-malware/

Remove infections,Reboot into normal mode and run malwarebytes once again till the PC is clean

Let us know after this

We can easily unhide files and recover icons using a simple procedure
