Laptop screen not working (black screen)

I have a Dell XPS M1530 laptop and before the month of December it was perfectly fine. But now when i put my laptop into sleep/hibernation mode and came back in the morning, the screen was black for awhile. I kept doing reboots, took the battery out and held the power button for 30-60 seconds and nothing new. I have asked a Geek Squad member for help and they suggested it was the connector for the screen to the [mother]board or the board itself which i find really odd. I don't have an external moniter and I'm not a very tech-person :p but its been about.. 16 days or so since it happened. Any help would be appreciated!

There is not much a "not a very tech-person" can do. I suggest you pay the Geek Squad to do a diagnostic.

Well thats the issue i ran into. I brought it in and he turned it on and waited around 7 seconds and just goes "Its the connector or the board." which really wasnt much help. Also out of warrenty so Dell is a "no-go" with help when i asked for any troubleshooting or help
