Cannot acess Itunes once it has been download

Hello,

I have had itunes for a couple of years , recently i cannot access itues at all , the same error message occurs "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close."I have cleared all my Itunes programmes and re-installed Itunes again , still same message.Apple support seem to think now it is a microsoft windows programme.I have been unable to acces my library and everything else that is in iTUNES.

i HAVE WINDOWSXP 2000 Series 3.
