Had this sort of problem with a PSP (yes, I know thats not a laptop)
It would not like WPA 2 internet security, but liked WPA and WEP.

Have you tried updating the driver for your wireless card? That could solve the issue for you.
Visit support.hp.com and make sure to download the latest driver for your wireless internet card.
