A system restore is your best bet.
Next time please give us more information. Like What OS you are using. I assume it's Windows of some type (XP, Vista or Win 7).

Thanks - running Windows XP.
Will a system restore result in loss of data and how do I do this?

This is a link to the "restore" instructions from Microsoft. A simple restore will not result in any loss of data.

If a system restore doesn't work the a "repair install" probably will. This is a link to instructions. You must follow instructions exactly or you WILL have data loss.
