Hi,

After trying to download and save photo's from my email something has happened to all the programs on my desktop.

They now all display as a small white box with an "e" inside them and the program name underneath.

If I try to open them it comes up with a security warning and an option to save.

Any idea how to fix this? Will any of the solutions already posed fix my problem?

A system restore is your best bet.

Next time please give us more information. Like What OS you are using. I assume it's Windows of some type (XP, Vista or Win 7).

Thanks - running Windows XP.

Will a system restore result in loss of data and how do I do this?

This is a link to the "restore" instructions from Microsoft. A simple restore will not result in any loss of data.

If a system restore doesn't work the a "repair install" probably will. This is a link to instructions. You must follow instructions exactly or you WILL have data loss.
