Hello,

I got a computer from a friend, after it had a harddrive failure, he got a new computer, and i took his old one to fix. I got it all set up where it was usable and stuff, and after about 2 weeks it stopped working.

by that I mean:
+ the monitor does not recognize the computer
+ when I hold to power button to force shutdown, it doesn't respond and just keeps running

Initially, i thought it was just the video card that died, but, logically, that shouldn't effect shutting down or starting up, I have begun to assume it's the motherboard. There isn't a built in VGA to test if it is solely the video card.

Am I right to assume this? Is there anything that I'm missing? How likely is it that it is just the mobo, and that if I replace the mobo new problems will arise?

Thanks for any help ahead of time.

First check your RAM and clean it. when you push the power button forcibly it won't work because when your process hangs Just check the cooling past of your processor may be it was dried.
