I do not have a laptop. What do I do for a desk computer. Do I pull out the battery from it also? don't know where it is Please Help. eve

I made a mistake and hit the stand by instead of turn off computer. I took it to a shop and they told me because I did not have enough memory and had updates to my computer by MS it would not wake up. I have 4 GB of memory and did not understand why and was there something I could do. Is there anything I can do?
