Hello,

My Windows 7 got corrupted and I didn't backup my recovery disk.
Is there any way where I can get the recovery disk from hp for free? And my laptop is out of warranty now.

Thanks,
Siva

Hi,

No! You can't get the disks free from HP, you must purchase them.

But you may try this:

Set the folder options to allow viewing of hidden files and folders and show known file extensions.

Search for the following file: hpcd.sys

There will be 2 copies,1 in C:\WINDOWS\SMINST and 1 in E:\

Delete both copies of the hpcd.sys files.

Run the HP recovery disk creation utility.

Good luck

I changed the hpdrcu.prc to hpdrcu.bak. I guess that I could have deleted it, but I had cold feet about doing it. I found the file manually in the Recovery folder. Someone's suggestion worked like a champ. Went from telling me one set is all that's allowed, to asking me where I wanted the second set created. Thank you to whomever posted this.

@Sanjay

As I mentioned, HP sells them, they will not make an exception for anyone.

They sells them by asking Credit card details, which is very risky
