Battery or worse

Hello,

The computer shut down during a DVD play and now just the lights go on, but no screen. Read the other post and I am wondering about the battery issue; and would this help at all. Even if the battery goes after 4 years. Would'nt the fans still come on? There is no fan sound when I try to start the system, but the lights come on. Does the cmos start the fans?

Is this a desktop or a laptop?

No CMOS will not turn on the fan, it just keeps the clock ticking.

No fan sound, no window jingle, when you power-up! Looks like a major motherboard crash.
