Hello,
Just want to say thanks to this forum for helping me solve my computer problem. No desktop icons this morning and no access to Explorer. I read the forum (for 2 hours) trying to figure out what was the problem. Finally, it really did seem like the problem could be fixable from the Registry. And it was.
Many thanks for writing the questions and answers in plain language. I am a fan!

Hi Denise2012,
Thank you for your valuable feedback. I am glad to hear that the forum was helpful to you in resolving the issue. When I checked your issue, there could be a simple fix for this also. I am sure you tried this:
1. Right Click anywhere on Desktop.
2. Select View.
3. Click Show Desktop Icons.
Hope that others will find this useful.

Hi Zohaib;
Yeah, many forums users had found this fix helpful - so I used it. To no avail. I am not sure why it didn't work - could it be that my Windows version is Professional?
Thanks so much.

Hi Denise2012,
According to Microsoft article (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows?ui=en-US&rs=en-001&ad=US this step is generic to all versions of Windows 7. If you have tried the below mentioned Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\HideIcons
This Registry key also does the same what the above fix does. Anyways, I am happy to hear your issue got fixed by this forum.
Thanks again.
