This problem sometimes happens because of Virus. Try running an Anti-Virus Scan on your E: drive (preferably on the entire Hard Disk) and check if the issue still persists.
Do reply with results.

There is a software by the name "EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard" this can help you recover data in most of the damaged Hard Drive Scenarios (the damage should not be physical).
