Hi rajugsr,
Please try these basic steps and check if the issue is fixed:
1. Check with known good CD to see if same issue occurs. If no, the issue is with the CD media. Else, follow next steps.
2. Run Optical Drive Troubleshooter from Windows 7 Troubleshooter. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2970908/how-to-use-microsoft-easy-fix-solutions
3. If the issue is still not fixed download and install the latest Optical Drive Firmware and BIOS from manufacturer's site. Restart the system. Note: Plug your computer to a good, working UPS before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.
4. Update / Reinstall the computer's audio / video drivers.
5. Run the Diagnostics provided by the manufacturer of your Laptop on the Optical Drive. If the Optical Drive Test gives any error please contact your computer company's support for further course of action.
Do reply with results.
