Possible causes are Memory problems... Graphics card memory problems... BIOS... Corrupted hard disk file system... Corrupted System Files... Missing Windows Updates... Drivers...
If this is a new computer and you are trying to format the hard disk I suggest you test the memory using a bootable version of "Memtest". You should be able to find a downloadable version using Google.
