I have removed two HDs from my old laptop running windows 7 32 bit. I now have a new laptop running win 8 64 bit, but need to retrieve some docs from my old HDs. I bought a GAUNTLET2 external HD enclosure but when I attach it to the new PC it won't read the files. I is telling me it is empty. What an I doing wrong? I don't really want to pay someone to retrieve them for me.

This should work - other than problems with security access that Windows 7 might have.
I suggest you try a different brand of drive enclosure.
