I suggest you take the card out of the adapter and carefully clean the contacts with a new pencil eraser. Then try again.
You may have damaged the card with static electricity at some time and it can't be repaired.

I can see the drive I: appear in Disk Management screen when the card is inserted, and hear a "ding" sound when the card is inserted and when it is removed, but I cannot access the folder for the files on the memory card.
Any other suggestions??
