Hotmail has now been replaced by Outlook so Hotmail is now Outlook and your Hotmail account should work in Outlook.

Thanks for your help Ambucias, but unfortunately I have tried all what you suggested to no avail. I have also tried outlook and try logging on that way but I still get the message that somebody else is using my account. I have since tried to change my password on my Hotmail account, but still nothing

If I were in your position, I would first delete all of my temporary files and cookies. Wait till the morning and try again.
Since Hotmail changed to Outlook it is more difficult to contact them or to get issues solved through their robot. Of course, with the number of user, they ensure you cannot contact someone directly.
