It depends on the software and the media you used to back-up the old hard drive. There needs to be a Boot program on either the optical disks, external hard drive used for the backup or a USB flash drive. The procedure is normally to change the boot order so that the PC boots from one of the above. It then will ask what kind of restore you wish to do.
