Connecting laptop to tv.

Hi
I have a Samsung Tv and have tried to connect my Toshiba Satellite laptop so I can hear the sound through tv. I have gone into the control panel and clicked on sound and it will not let me tick box so you can enable either speakers or tv there is a enable and disable . What is the answer to this problem or is there an easier way?
Please advise thankyou

i would check the video graphic settings for the second monitor.(TV)

check out the hdmi setting,for this monitor (TV) on the laptop

also reset the resolution on tv to 576p this should allow the connection to tv..
once connected make sure its the default connection on the graphic card.

if the graphics can handle 1080 then reset the tv resolution to 1080
