If you have data files you need to recover. You have two options:
1. remove the hard disk and attach it to another computer and copy the files to a CD. You could buy a USB hard drive adapter to make this transfer easy.
2. Download Ubuntu Linux, burn the image to a CD, put the CD in the damaged computer and boot from the Linux CD ( DO NOT install Linux). use Linux to copy the files to a CD. This only works if you can change the boot order in the BIOS.
