Fix Browser to internet on Hp Laptop, using windows 8

Having problems connecting to internet through Google, Firefox, internet explore, just blank page shows up on our Hp laptop full size. used Norton to clean up, no virus detected. Microsoft and word work just not when it needs internet connection. Need simple instructions. I also wanted to ask if a battery in the laptop would cause this problem. The laptop is bought at best buy and have had it since January of this year. My husband does his school work on it. He saves his data on file on connector whatever they are called. He uses his laptop alot and the brightness is not high ether. So I figured i would ask anyone who would know how to fix the browser because i get get on to internet long enough. Julia weber
