Hi, I backed up 2 computers onto the above simple save external hard drive. I plugged in in recently and it was not recognised in my computer. I'm running windows 7. It does appear in computer management but a pop up says, "you must initialise a disc......." Apparently initialising will delete data which I need. So it appears as disc 6 with a thick black line across the top.
Any ideas how I can recover my data.
1. I found a site that said to remove the drive from the HP box which I have done - it is a WD10ears.

Hi,
Have you tried the device on another PC? Can you check the File System of the drive? Is it NTFS or appears as RAW? You may have success using Linux Live CD/DVD to attempt to recover your files. You may be facing some file corruption, so try to use the chkdsk/r command from the cmd in order to retrieve some readable information.
