Screen doesn't come on

I turn on my computer but the screen doesn't come on, I will wait for up to 45 minutes turning computer off and on then it will start and run fine, anyone have a fix for what I'm sure I've done?? also sometimes a light on top of my emachine will come on it has a lock next to it but will go off by it's self when the screen comes on- thanks all for helping old dude computer dummy-

This sounds like a hardware problem - perhaps with the power supply or motherboard. Only a qualified PC Tech has a chance of fixing the problem. But, it might cost more to fix that to buy a new laptop or tablet.
