I have a HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Premium 64 bitI suffer with the CPU hitting the roof (max) I have reuced the programs installed to 4 in order not to put a load on the computer but still my CPU is high. I do not know how to reduce it as I do not know what programs need to run @ startup & that are required by the system. I have lost a few functions in the control panel so maybe I have removed a program I should not have done I no longer have a backup, I was going to wait until Windows 10 free down loads later this year. Maybe I should? nichandcar

Hello,

Try this 1

Hold the "Ctrl", "Shift" keys and press the "Esc" key. "Task Manager"

will be opened. Click on "Processes" tab. Under "CPU" column, let us

know the process which is taking a high CPU usage.

Good Luck

I have pinned it down to "mcshield.exe system 139,572K" followed by "svchost.exe system 134,588K"

Hello,
Try this 1
Temporary disable your antivirus and let us know if you can see the difference.
Later, enable the antivirus.
Let us know your laptop configuration(Ex: Core 2 Duo along with RAM Size Ex: 4GB RAM) Or provide us your laptop complete model number.
