OK, if the wire is going from PC to PC, it must be a crossover cable. Right now, with a straight cable, ones pc's MOUTH is connecting to the other pc's MOUTH, and it needs to be to its EAR! So, you either need a crossover cable, or a workgroup hub/switch.
Then dependant on your O/S, you will need to either share with other machine, or be in the same DOMAIN/WORKGROUP!
