Can anyone help on this matter I have tried 2 keyboards and I have also tried the laptop with windows and linux. I just can't get the buttons asdfjkl to work.
I have also tried 5 presses on the shift button but the sticky is not on.

It really sounds like a mechanical issue, in other words, hardware failure!

Try to clean it out with canned air, or a vacuum! BE CAREFUL, ELECTROSTATIC WARNING! IF that scares you, then do not do it!

Do you think it could be the connector on the motherboard or maybe the south bridge. And would a reflow sort this out

Well, if it was connector the whole thing would be bad, more than likely! Swapping out the keyboard is really pretty simple, if you have opened a laptop before!

I have tried another keyboard but I get the same result. I don't think I could be that unlucky to get 2 keyboards and get the same fault on both.

YEa, likely two bad keyboards, not so likely. Plug in a device to see if the USB will charge it.
